Emmaus
About us
The Emmaus Retreat is a powerful invitation for all brothers and sisters in Chris, to step away from the noise of everyday life and encounter Jesus in a personal and transformative way.
More than just a retreat, Emmaus is a spiritual journey. It is a gift for the soul, an opportunity to experience God’s unconditional love, and a moment of renewal through the Holy Spirit that leaves a lasting impact on every participant.
Inspired by the Gospel of Luke (24:13–35), the story of the disciples on the Road to Emmaus, this retreat invites each person to walk alongside Christ, rediscover faith, and return transformed—just as the disciples did.
Our motto reflects the heart of this experience:
“Jesus Christ has risen, truly He has risen!”
A proclamation of faith, hope, and unity that continues to guide our mission.
Our Origins
The Emmaus Retreat began in 1978 in the Archdiocese of Miami at the Dominican Retreat House (MorningStar Renewal Center). It was founded by a dedicated group of lay women from St. Louis Parish in Kendall, Florida, under the leadership of Father David G. Russell and Myrna Gallagher.
Since then, Emmaus has grown into a life-changing ministry that continues to touch and transform lives across generations.
Our Mission
For over a decade in our community, Emmaus Retreats for both women and men have strengthened faith, deepened relationships with Christ, and built a strong sense of spiritual community.
As part of this mission, we created our official Emmaus retreat shirts for both Walkers and Servers.
These are not just shirts.
They are a visible sign of faith, unity, and belonging—representing a shared journey with Christ and with one another.
